Messrs Jacobson and Rappold. The terms of your duel are as follows.

You will each design a game in the genre Film Noir.

The mechanics of the game will incorporate a musical scale.

In your game, you will incorporate the theme of travel.

You will each complete your game by the end of May 29th.

I hope that's OK. Personally, I love those restrictions. I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes out of it.

Rock On... those are an awesomely diverse set of requirements! Thanks to everyone who contributed :)

Now, how the hell am I going to fit all these things together?

I mean... uhh... I have already designed two... no, three games with those exact specifications... so get prepared for an onslaught of awesome!

Wow! I was expecting some sort of rehash of familiar bits, but those are some cool and decidedly fresh weapons. Yes, yes, those will do nicely.

Perhaps you should just use the time to get your affairs in order, Mr. Rappold.

Film Noir was Malcolm Craig's suggestion, which I think it is great, because it's uncommon but kind of exciting.

The musical scale is courtesy of Daniel Wood / Ice Cream Emperor. Loads of ways to interpret it, which is cool.

Then choosing a theme was difficult, because I had things like "Sex vs Intimacy" and "Finding someone who's lost", and they just fit too well with Film Noir. And then Joshua Bishop-Roby suggested "travel narrative" as a genre, so I co-opted travel as a theme.

God, choosing that was fun. I've got loads more themes and genres, if anyone ever wants some.

I am impressed :) You should post some of your favourite combinations into the Game Designer Challenges topic as sort of 'standing challenges'!

Also, Justin... I created a biting and witting response to your foolish attempt at repartee but I decided that you were too feeble to withstand it. So instead I say, "May the best man win".

This wasn't entirely clear, but can I assume that we should just post a link to our pdf in this thread?

That works for me... although we might want to start a new thread, maybe?

Let's let Graham do that so he can present it to taste.

The Duel interviews with both of you will be up on Master Plan later today. Sorry it's taken this long.

I may have difficulty actually posting the link to my game by midnight. Can Adam and Graham whisper me their e-mails so I can e-mail it to them to mark the time?

FYI, if Adam wants or needs to do the same, my e-mail address is justin[at]bluedevilgames[dt]com.
