They have put the G.o.D. events in the Regency Ball room sections E and F at The Hyatt Hotel this year.
The Hyatt is one of the Hotels connected to the Convention Center By Sky walk. (The one many of us walked through from the Embassy Suites)

I have a made a map to get to the Ball Room.

    http://www.enter.net/~whim/Conventions/Gencon07/map.jpg

The schedule of Table Custodian's and the time of their shifts can be found here:

    http://www.enter.net/~whim/picks/gs1.jpg

G.o.D. will open at 10am Every morning of the convention ending at 6pm from Thursday throught Saturday and at 2pm on Sunday.

My hopes it that G.o.D. will become a mini hub of Story Game activity outside of the Exhibit hall.

    Kat,

Is there anything I need to know from an administrative perspective to run games at Gen Con?

And are they paying us? With hookers?

    BE THERE!!!!

And afterwards, BE AT THE EMBASSY SUITES!!!

Unless other cool activities are going on!!!

In which case, go to those instead!!!

    But then swing by afterwards!!!

Unless you're really sleepy and need to rest!!!

Although I highly recommend taking naps in the afternoon!!!

If I got this right, we would normally have to be registered as a "GM" to get into an event without Generic Tickets.
However, it is retarded to volunteer to run games then pay for the privilege with event tickets.
So it sounds like the deal is, "You get paid in Players, and in return do not have to pay for the event you're running".

Note, too, that I am not on the schedule, but plan on being up in that crib at least half or more of that time. Either helping with ticket collection or (more likely) running games. I hope to see more S-G folks there, too, as GMs and players. If you're not doing anything and are hankerin' to run something, email or whisper Kat Miller and she'll hook you up.

I'm happily running things and was mostly tongue-in-cheek when I asked if we were getting paid, but I do sorely miss the way that GMs get treated at Double Exposure's cons.

For Gm's that just want to run an Indie game with G.o.D. just come with your game, and you will not have to pay a generic to play. The Table Custodians will find you a spot at the tables (so long as we have room) take the tickets from your players and tell you when you need to end your game by.

as for the hookers....I only pimp games.
have you heard about "With Great Power?..." she is a beautiful game!

    I'm confused, I'm sorry!

Ok, so for GoD anyone can take the tables and run a game, right?

So I'm scheduled for GoD duty, that means I'm pledging to definitely be there to run games, and if other people want to come in and run games there too, that's fine? Basically how does GoD "duty" differ from just popping by and taking a table?
  5.  # 9
The GoD admin, as implied above, just makes sure that the tickets are collected and such from every table, so that we get invited back again next year. Otherwise they're just a GM. It's not rough. (Kat will correct me if I'm misremembering).

I shall be camped in GoD quite a bit, I suspect. See you there. :-)

    I'm glad you asked.

Table Custodians will be there to run games too but there will be some other duties for them.
I'll start a thread defining the duties of the Custodians Plus I also will hold a brief meeting of Custodians on Wednesday night (aprx. 8pm) At the Embassy Suites to go over the duties and answer any last questions.

So I can't get in on a GOD game with just a steenking exhibitor badge? I've never actually had gaming tickets at Gen Con in all the years I've gone.
  7.  # 12
No you filfthy hippy, you need tickets! And those cost money, too!

Well, you can get into GoD with just your badge, so long you're running the games and not playing.

This is why GMless games exist. Also, last year I just stumbled in and played some Heroquest without spending any tickets or nothing. It just happened, like a drunk date on prom night.

Actually last year several people Donated tickets for the ticketless.
Also you can use the Meet-up board to arrange afterhours gaming which is ticketless.
but during G.o.D. hours even Gmless games will need one Desgnated GM.
You see its the tickets and the collecting of that allow me to get assigned tables in an assigned place through Gen Con.
Without the tickets we're back to trying to find the ellusive "open gaming area"
you know where people eat sleep and do everything BUT gaming.
  9.  # 15
Kat, you should make the connection between collecting tickets and having space to play really clear. I'm dumb, but I didn't know that was how it worked. I just thought it was Gen Con trying to take more money from me.
  10.  # 16
I have to say, not having at GenCon, the map above is not sufficient for me finding the place. You'll need to have a shuttle from the SG Booths to GoD, heh.

    Word.

I planned on, between games I run, perhaps jumping into fellow GM's games as a player. I figure that it could spontaneously happen without tickets as above, but now that that connection's been made, I'm going to buy a sheet of tix just in case.

Ok I'd like to make this Thread a G.o.D. FAQ and QA thread,
so I'm going to link the Other Topics to this one.

What Do the Table Custodians Do?

    The Game Library Box

    The Meet-Up Board

I'll be happy to answer any and all questions about the up Coming G.o.D. events

It's a bit more straightforward once you're there and can get a sense of how it's all laid out. If it helps, the convention center has some decent maps of the downtown area, including all the hotels that are connected to the hall.
  12.  # 20
Also, I don't know if Kat's already on the ball with this, but it's a stunningly good idea for table custodians to have a stack of generic tickets on hand. That way, instead of saying "No ticket? Uhh, go downstairs, across the street and down the hall and stand in line for a while" the custodians can say "Got 2 bucks?"

    Big News! Big News!

The G.o.D. Tables are going to be located in the Hallway Outside of the Hyatt's Regency Ballroom Sections E-F
making them even easier to find.

It looks like almost all the Indie Games Explosion events will be inside the Hyatt's Regency Ballroom E-F
The exceptions are Michael S. Millers "By the Stars" games
    and the Seminars.

We're not allowed to sell generics.
But what some did last year, and what I know I'll be doing this year is Buying extra Generics to Donate.
    so its more:

"Don't have a Ticket? No Worries, we have a few exta...come play."
  13.  # 23
Can't sell generics? Really? That's kinda... silly and futile of GC, but OK.

    James
  14.  # 24
Well, the "Sell" thing is kind of a technicality. Seeing as you can cash in generics. Or has that changed? If not, then you're just "reselling" the generics, and handing in any extras, which amounts to precisely the same thing.

For years I've gotten away with sitting down at a table with no ticket, and just asking to purchase one from one of the regulars. Once in a while I'll buy some generics to have on hand to pay back. I suppose I'll do that this year, to keep the karma balance equal. :-)

    Hey Kat,
My Gencon plans have changed and I'm not going to make it this year. Unfortunately, this leave 2 table custodian slots open. Sorry about the short notice.

Since Matt isn't going to make it, do you need someone to cover a table in the Friday early spot (10am to 2pm)?

You guys are seriously making me regret buying regular RPG tickets this year. I only heard about this Games on Demand thing a few days ago. :-(

I'll definitely try to fit in at least one On Demand game during the Con. Hopefully I can squeeze in some after hours fun as well!

Hmm, I just got some mail...

"...You have been identified as an event organizer or game master. The locations printed on event tickets may be incorrect. They are correct in the on-line registration system.

This email contains the most current location for all of your events. Please print this out and bring it with you for a quick reference of locations on-site.
We apologize for any confusion this has caused...Again, event locations in the on-line registration system are correct."

Kat, do you think we need to worry about this? Are people going to show up at the wrong location for IGE games?

I have recieved the same E-mail this morning.

The nice thing is that with the exception of the "By The Stars" game which was registered as a Larp and the Seminars
all Indie Game Explosion events are being Held in the Hyatt Hotel Regency Ballroom Sections E and F
Right where I said the G.o.D. Events would be held.

The only change they made was pushing the G.o.D. Events from inside E and F to outside the ballroom.
G.o.D. will be in the hall outside the Regency Ballroom.
All the Indie games that registered through Indie Games Explosion are going to be inside.

    This is way Cool.

I have updated my IGE at Gen Con Website to Include locations tables and tickets sold as of monday

Well all GoD provides is whole sessions. Don't want to let 'em off easy, right? Can't think of anything else that would work.

I think it's useful just to make them show up. GoD is far enough off the beaten path this year that making people know where it is and getting them out this is good. Once they're all the way out at the Hyatt, they'll want to stay and play anyway. :)
