How soon? Soon enough that it's on the Evil Hat website (which links to this as-of-yet-sparsely-populated site). We're planning on opening pre-orders next week, with an anticipated release date of the first week of July.

I'm happy to answer any questions people may have.

    Hey,

the downloads are hot. I love what they suggest about the changes from the playtest document I saw.

I am excited for this game.

EDIT: Will there be a pdf version for sale?

I love the idea of new questions (for the patient) and specific (matching) settings. I think a lot of really interesting games could be played out with that. I guess I love it because it, in my head for now, seems to add a lot of (fun) possibility to the game.

I think my only disappointment is that I'm going away midway through June on a vacation that involves two thirteen hour roadtrips, and June comes before July.

Absolutely. I'm curious to see what other questions and settings people come up with.

Yay! At this point, this is the only new RPG that I'm planning on buying this year. Yeah, it's that much fun.

Click on the link to the Orphic Institute. See the text there? That's essentially a transcript of play.

I'm 99% percent certain it'll be $15 for print and $20 for print+pdf. Don't Rest Your Head is pretty much the model here.

That means I need to work on my blurb, I suppose.

In A Penny For My Thoughts, you play amnesiacs helping each other recover their memories through an experimental therapy. Conceptually, it lives in the same space as The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen and 1001 Nights. You tell your character's story, but with the other players having a huge amount of say over what your character did or said. And there's more than little bit of my experience with improv that's worked it's way into the design.

The rules and structure are very simple, and they can easily be adapted to other settings and genres. In addition to the "standard" setup, which focuses on loss and personal drama, we've included one inspired by Call of Cthulhu and another that's basically The Bourne Identity.

That enough of a blurb for you?

I dreamed about your game last night Paul, even though I know very little about it. In my version, I was trying to escape the asylum, my fragmented memories slowly guiding me through this vast building, and you were pursuing me in your white lab coat.

Get out of my mind, Tevis!

This sounds awesome! So, like, you've lost your memory because you saw something that Man Was Not Meant to Comprehend and it literally blew your mind? And now you're trying to recreate the terrible horrors to get your memories back? I want to play that right now.

    That is so awesome, Paul!
And it makes me really happy because, while I really enjoyed the PbEM playtest of Penny, I've always kind of suspected my usual gaming friends might not be into the game. But they loves them some Cthulhu-flavored gaming, so with a scenario like this, they'd probably be on board for giving it a shot. I'm excited!

A Penny For My Thoughts is everything that I want in a pickup RPG. All of you should buy it.

Paul, if you think that this would be a helpful pull quote to put somewhere, knock yourself out.

(If you think that my support will be counter-productive, have Andy delete this post. :-] )

The shipping date is listed as July 1, so probably 'til then. That said, we got notice from UPS yesterday that the books are on their way to the warehouse already.

I've been meaning to get Burning Empires for so long that I swore to myself the next game I bought would be BE. Looks like BE will have to wait. I am buying this.
