Beam Saber V0.1 is here!

Hello everyone!
For the last couple months I've been working on a mech/vehicle focused Blades In The Dark hack called Beam Saber and now V0.1 is ready to be shared!

  • My super-cursory read through has me really intrigued. I can think of a lot of fun things I'd want to do with this system. I especially like the idea of applying the Blades model of "legwork" to a military action, re: things like reconnaissance, tactical positioning, etc... Also the relationship clocks are a fantastic idea especially considering some of the inspiration; is that from Blades originally or something you came up with for this game?
  • The relationship clocks are not from Blades originally. They're a combination of Apocalypse World's history mechanic, Dungeon World's bonds mechanic, and a house rule I have for the former.
  • Relationship clocks seem exactly like AW's Hx with the "learn a secret" custom move some people use.

    However, they increase by the pilots hanging out/blowing off steam together, right?

    However, I *love* the additional procedure of writing "beliefs" - I guess these are values or beliefs where you're wondering... what position does my friend take on this?

    That's really cool. Somehow it makes the "Hx rollover" much more clear, palatable, and understandable for the players. Nice!
  • Work on Beam Saber continues and I've released 2 versions between the creation of the thread and now. So here's V0.13!

    The video is 8 hours long and starts with character and squad generation, which ends at about 3h16m, and the game play starts at about 3h34m.
    If you just want to read what happens I live tweeted the game while it was happening!

    I'm glad you like the relationship mechanics, I'm rather excited to see if they work as well as I hope, especially as campaigns get deeper in!

    The change log for this version is in the attached image. The big highlights are the Session Zero (including lines, veils, and the X-card), Rivals, and Allies sections.

    Highlights include new pilot sheets that are playbook specific (made by the wonderful Christine), rules for temporary vehicles, and rules for app development!
